125I seed permanent implantation is a safe and convenient treatment with minimal invasiveness. It showed high local control rate and relatively acceptable complication. The quality of life of the patients improved significantly after the implantation.
The efficacy of trimetazidine dihydrochloride for chronic tinnitus was prospectively assessed in 97 patients. Tinnitus and audiometric results between placebo and trimetazidine groups were compared in a randomized, doubled-blind trial. The randomized controlled trial failed to show any statistical differences between two groups.
We evaluated the effect of Asia sand dust (ASD) in human middle ear epithelial cells (HMEECs). ASD exposure decreased the HMEEC viability dose-dependently. ASD exposure significantly increased inflammation-related genes (COX-2, TNF-a). ASD exposure significantly increased mucin-pro ducing genes (MUC5AC, MUC5B). Environmental ASD exposure can result in the development of otitis media.
The temporal bone area fractured is associated with severity and course of conductive hearing loss. Air-bone (AB) gap was highly improved in cases with external auditory canal, middle ear, and mastoid fractured. AB-gap was least improved at 2,000 Hz.
Salivary functions in the epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) groups were better than in the radioiodine group. EGCG group showed more mucin-rich parenchyma and less periductal fibrosis. Fewer apoptotic cells were observed in EGCG group than in radioiodine group. EGCG supplementation could protect from radioiodine-induced salivary gland damage.
It is known that a great extent of radiation is emitted from the medical instruments used in hospitals and that radiation exposure can cause thyroid cancer. However, working in a hospital does not increase the prevalence of thyroid cancer in this study.
